As gateways to knowledge and culture, libraries play a fundamental role in education. They bridge the gap between a student’s desire to know and what they are taught in school. For a person of average means, it is difficult to purchase all the books they want to read. Libraries provides an effective alternative to get access to a variety of books. We believe that giving access to a wide variety of books will help to foster positive habits and attitudes among children.
Samatvam Trust provided support to Shivani Welfare Foundation and Smile India Foundation in setting up a library for children in order to encourage and sustain a reading habit among children. The library was furbished with poetry books, books on science, general knowledge and works of fiction and non-fiction.
Shivani Welfare Foundation was formed and registered in November 2020 with a mission to improve the lives of underprivileged children primarily through quality education. They are working with children of migrant and construction workers and at present, about 600 children are registered with them. Smile India Foundation works as a catalyst in bringing sustainable change in the lives of lesser privileged children and families.
Samatvam trust sourced the books from Eklavya which is a non-profit voluntary organization working in the field of education since 1982.
