Inclusive Education

“When inclusive education is fully embraced, we abandon the idea that children have to become ‘normal’ in order to contribute to the world. We begin to look beyond typical ways of becoming valued members of the community, and in doing so, begin to realize the achievable goal of providing all children with an authentic sense of belonging.”

Norman Kunc

Akshya Pratisthan is one of the prime institutions in New Delhi that provides inclusive education and caters to children with learning disabilities and challenges. With humble beginnings in 1987, Akshya Pratisthan has over the last 35 odd years been motivating children to face the challenges of life with confidence. Having begun with 30 children with and without challenges, from the neighbourhood colonies where physical and mental challenges were entwined with severe poverty, the school today has a strength of about 400 children. A conscious effort has been made to employ teachers capable of imparting special education and are adequately trained to cater to the special requirements.

Akshya Pratisthan is a dream that has been nurtured with great care, love, hard work and vision. Equal opportunities and “education for all” has been deeply enshrined as the guiding principle of this organization. The school provides a platform for children with physical and mental challenges and simultaneously caters to economically underprivileged children.

With a robust educational curriculum till the VIII standard combined with expert faculty, it also incorporates the latest technology and co-curricular activities. The school provides free uniforms, books and mid-day meals. The transportation remains free for specially challenged children. In addition to 450 regular students, the school is also a registered study centre for NIOS and IGNOU. It provides opportunities for academic excellence for those who are unable to attend regular courses.

The school is fully devoted to finding vocations and careers for the students through education and functional academics. Providing therapeutic care to those who can ill-afford such advancements has been one of their major achievements. This facility has been extended to all children through occupational, physiotherapy and speech therapy units. They also arrange for surgical treatment for severely disabled children at reputed centres.

For the third consecutive year Samatvam Trust has financially supported the activities of Akshya Pratisthan.
